What a Daikoku PA tour costs — and what the extra money buys

The three tiers, with the pool’s real ranges

Format sets the price more than anything else: a van seat, a shared seat in a real tuned car, or a car of your own. Ranges are the 46 listings we track, as scraped on 16 August 2026.

• Van / shuttle$47–132 per person, seven listings. The floor is a $47 shared van to Daikoku or Umihotaru; the proven seats are $56 and $63. The top of the band buys service, not a better van: $107 for hotel pickup, $132 for four hours with native-English professional guides. All van shuttles →

Per person vs per group: the trap

Comparing a per-person seat with a per-group car as if the numbers meant the same thing is the most common mistake; the winner flips at three people. Four listings from our pool, worked for real party sizes:

Solo: a shared seat, no contest; the only private listings that make sense for one are per-seat, such as a $94-per-person private car with hotel pickup. Two: shared seats are still $56–82 cheaper than the cheapest per-group car, but that gap buys the whole car and hotel pickup. Three: per group wins — $282 for a private R34 is $94 a head, $308 for a GT-R of your generation is $103; even the $546 700-hp R34 is $182. Four: the $377 R34 is the cheapest private ride per head in the pool.

The trap runs the other way too: one private listing charges $322 per person with a two-person minimum, so a trio pays $966 for a night a per-group car does for $308–395. Off-platform operators do the same in yen — around ¥35,000 per person for a “random car” seat against ¥60,000 per car for a chosen R34, RX-7 or Supra. The phrase to search every listing for is per group.

What’s in the price, and what isn’t

Tolls, fuel and the guide are in; food is out; hotel pickup is what varies. From the listings’ own inclusion boxes:

• Tolls & fuelIncluded wherever mentioned. The Shuto toll to Daikoku is about ¥590 by ETC from Tokyo IC, ¥700–1,200 each way from central Tokyo — never why one tour costs double another.
• Food & drinkExcluded everywhere. The food court closes at 21:00 and most tours arrive after that; budget a Lawson stop.
• Hotel pickup & drop-offThe real variable. The $63 Odaiba van only picks up hotels for groups of five with three hours’ notice; the $107 vans include both. One Ginza car-share drops at hotels only on its 22:30 session; an R35 listing gives free drop-off but pickup only for a booking of three; one convoy tour has no pickup at all. Private cars almost always include both.
• A-PIT AutobacsOn most itineraries but skipped on Fridays and on the 21:00 / 22:30 sessions of the Ginza listings, weekdays-only on another. If the parts store matters, book the early weeknight session.
• The Umihotaru detourMost listings divert without a fee when Daikoku is closed. Two put a number on it: one private R34 charges ¥5,000 per person extra; one Supra tour makes it free if Daikoku is shut but ¥5,000 if you want it anyway. • Cancellation & extrasFree up to 24 hours before on nearly every listing; not refundable for a thin lot, rain or a diversion. GT-R upgrades “for a fee” on some ride-ins; the $47 van upsells a real GR86 / 370Z / S15 seat.

What the extra money buys

Moving from $56 to $126 to $546 buys, in that order, the car, the company and the convenience. Everything else is marginal.

• The car itselfThe biggest jump. A van seat watches the meet; a shared seat rides the Wangan in an R34, S15 or RX-7; a named-car seat ($158–188) promises the badge as far as availability allows; a per-group private car ($282–546) is that car with nobody else in it. Which tour puts you in which car.
• Group sizeRide-ins run about three riders per car in a convoy. Private means your party only; on the $377 licensed R34 the driver doubles as a photographer and sets up rolling shots.
• Hotel pickupRoughly the difference between the $56 shuttle and the $107 vans, and between a shared seat and most private cars. Worth it at midnight; not if your hotel is near the meeting point.
• Guides, time & photosThe $132 four-hour van tour charges more than some ride-ins for native-English professional guides and more stops; several ride-ins run drivers in seven to ten languages. Up to 1.5 hours on the ground on the $47 van, a promised full hour on the $158 R34, high-resolution photos on the engine-sound tour. Small increments, priced small.

What no price buys

Not an open lot, not a particular car, not a dry night. Every listing carries a version of “Daikoku may close without notice”; police shut the entrance from about 20:30 on busy Fridays, Saturdays and holidays, and the tour then runs to wherever the cars went. The car is “subject to availability” on all of them, so if the R34 specifically is the point, ask before you pay. Rain thins the meet and nobody refunds for a thin meet. No tour includes drifting or a street-racing spot — the listings that mention it say it is illegal — and several describe themselves as clubs rather than transport services. If that changes your mind, read the honest verdict first.

Taxi or rental car instead: the maths

Doing it yourself is not cheaper from Tokyo, and only slightly cheaper from Yokohama; the tours exist because the return leg is the expensive part.

• Taxi from TokyoShibuya to Daikoku is roughly ¥13,000–17,000 one way plus tolls. There is no taxi rank inside, so the car must wait; round-trip-with-waiting figures of ¥20,000–35,000 are widely quoted and unverified. More than a $47–63 van seat, and about the same as a $282–308 private car for three with a guide and hotel pickup. The taxi detail.
• Taxi from Yokohama StationAbout ten minutes and a few thousand yen; agree a waiting rate and keep the driver. The one do-it-yourself route that beats a tour on price.
• Rental carThe rental, an ETC card (about ¥330) and Shuto tolls at ¥150 plus ¥29.52 per km — about ¥590 from Tokyo IC, ¥700–1,200 each way from central Tokyo; parking is free. For two or more who already have the car it undercuts every tour, but you drive the Shuto at night and arrive in a rental, not an RX-7. Self-drive notes.
• Booking directOperators selling by WhatsApp or Instagram quote around ¥22,000–28,000 for a club evening with no hotel drop-off and ¥35,000–60,000 per seat or car — not cheaper than the pool, and without the free-cancellation window.
